Deezer plans to let listeners remove AI-generated music from their experience entirely. A new toggle, due before the end of the year, will hide AI-generated tracks, albums and related artists from search results.

Why Deezer is doing it

Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier said the company has seen clear demand from users who want to focus only on human creators. The company cites a survey from last year in which about 45 percent of its customers said they wanted a way to remove AI music from their feeds.

The volume of AI music is the other driver. Deezer introduced AI-detection tools last year, when AI-generated tracks made up about 10 percent of daily uploads. By July of this year, the company said more than half of daily uploads were AI-generated, averaging around 90,000 tracks per day.

How others are responding

Streaming services are taking different positions. Bandcamp has banned AI tracks outright. Tidal stopped paying out for AI-uploaded music. Spotify labels AI tracks and artists more prominently but does not remove them. Apple Music is reportedly planning AI labels, and YouTube has just started labeling AI-made songs on YouTube Music.

Why it matters for builders

For anyone building generative music products, distribution is getting harder. If a meaningful share of listeners can filter AI tracks out with one switch, "generate and upload at scale" becomes a weak strategy. Value is likely to shift toward tools that help human artists work faster and better, rather than tools that replace them.

There is also a detection angle. Platforms need reliable ways to tell AI-generated audio from human-made work, and creators need confidence that legitimate production tools, like mixing and mastering software, will not get their songs wrongly flagged. That opens opportunities for provenance and metadata tools that document how a track was made.

Finally, the numbers are a useful reminder of how quickly AI content can flood a platform. Any product that accepts user uploads, whether music, images or text, should think early about labeling, filtering and quality controls.
